We don’t like being dishonest about feelings, it doesn’t help anyone. (Published 2/26/2013)

Q:

I have written to you gentlemen when my dad died in 2010. I would like to know your opinion on whether or not my mom, who now lives alone, should stay in her home where my mom and dad lived, or would it be better for her to move? My dad died in their home; we (the family) were all there. We have a hard time when we go into the room, as it brings all the sadness back. Do the memories of my dad in the house make it harder for my mom? I miss my dad so much, I still cry every day for him. I don't show my mom my sadness, as I don't want her to feel sad. I take her to the cemetery every Saturday, I want to visit my dad, but it makes me so sad when I do go, but I can't not go. My parents would have been married 60 years in October. My dad hoped he would make it to their anniversary, but he died two weeks before. I had started to read The Grief Recovery Handbook, but I need to read more of it. I'm thankful for your advice and that's there's a book that will help me and others in dealing with grief. One thing I know for sure though is, that I will never be as happy as I once was when I had my dad, I love him so much—the void in my heart is tremendous.
