Bruce Hyde, an actor who played Lieutenant Kevin Riley on the original "Star Trek" television series, has died, according to multiple news sources.

Hyde, who was 74, died Oct. 13 of throat cancer, according to his wife.

Hyde appeared in two episodes of the series, "The Naked Time" and "The Conscience of the King."

In addition to "Star Trek," Hyde appeared in episodes of several other television series, including "The Beverly Hillbillies," "Dr. Kildare," "The Trials of O'Brien" and "That Girl."

Hyde's wife, Susan Saetre, told CNN that her husband "lived such a full life" and "made a difference for everybody. This was his perfect last act. He was in the Hospice house, and he was drawing pictures of people who came in, he also drew a great picture of himself at a French café. He felt everything in his life was complete, and he was at peace."

Born Sept. 14, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, Hyde earned his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and his master's degree at the University of North Texas.

He retired from acting after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2010.

At the time of his death, he was professor emeritus of communications studies at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.
