Death of Marge Champion

"In the `50s, the Champions appeared at a nightclub in Cleveland. My folks took my brother and me, and we were near the stage, which rose up in the middle of the dance floor. I was very young, a little kid. Marge , working the room, started talking to me, and I was in love. I asked her out on a date, and she asked if I could afford that. I told her my allowance was 50 cents. She got a lot of laughs without making me feel I was being made fun of. She was very sweet, leaning down and letting me kiss her on the cheek. I think I´m still in love!"

"I had the good fortune to work with and get to know Marge in the 1980's. Besides being a consummate artist, she was the loveliest, most generous-spirited, gracious, smart woman, and I feel privileged to have known her. I am so glad that she will live on forever in all of the footage that has her image, talent and grace captured for all of us and for future generations."

"In the 1970s, Marge and an actress named Marilee Zdeneck did a series of worship services including dance in Bel Aire Presbyterian Church in CA. The church I attended at the time, First Community in Columbus, OH, invited them to come and create a Pentecost service in 1973, and five of us were invited to dance "The Lord's Prayer" with her in the course of the service. The next day, I was invited to drive out with the minister driving her back to the airport; in the car she said, "You know, you have enough people for a dance choir. You should form one." "What's a dance choir?" I asked. The answer has been working itself out in me, one way and another, ever since.
