The voice of an angel has been silenced here on earth and has returned to his heavenly home. Those of us who remain on earth, will cherish his songs, the love he sang about to his wife and fans and know that he is not far from us at all. Take your rest now, oh weary servant. Job well done Nick Simpson. Take your rest indeed.

I have been a fan since the70's when I was just a teenager. Throughout the years I have been in love with the music of the famous couple,Ashford and Simpson. Your music has always touched me soul and I was so in awe of the love that was evident between the two of you.
Valerie my deepest sympathy as I know the pain you are in. I also have lost my mate four years ago. I felt like all the air was taken away from me. A very dear friend told me earlier this year that what I must do now is to live my life in a way to honor his memory and what was shared between the two of us. This way only one life is lost, not two. May God continue to bless you and your family.
Love to you,
A loyal fan.

Love,Love,Love the beautiful music of Ashford & Simpson. Dear Valerie, Nick was more to you than to your fans. He was your Business Partner, your Friend, your Soulmate, your Husband and Father to your 2 daughters. Therefore, your loss is much greater. May you find comfort from your extended family of fans. Most importantly, comfort from the scripture found at 1 Corinthians 1:3,4 Please allow..."the God

I have fond memories. I have seen this man contribute over the years his gifts and expand the lives of others through his music. This couple has contributed to the civil rights movement and challenged us in their music to rise to the ocassion and do our part. Only God could put them together and only a love of God could produce the results!

"Gimme Something Real" I found out about your music, during the Motown years. But then I found out from "The Real Thing" that you and Valerie wrote "Let's Go Get Stoned" for Ray Charles and California Soul" which was recorded by The 5th Dimension, even before your Motown years. My favorite song of yours is "Mainline". But the song that means the most
to me is "Gimme Something Real" because that's what I was looking for in 1973 and what I'm looking for now. To Valerie: As Nick wrote
in "Harden Not Your Heart"
Somewhere in the quietness there a voice will speak to you telling you exactly what to do.
At first you'll feel hopeless blind,
but if you don't look behind the mountain in
front of you will fall.

Let me try again with my entry, I am very sorry for your loss, Mr. Ashford will always be remember through the love ballets that He and his wife Mrs. Simpson created over the years. Just before this unforunated loss occurred I happen to be watching videos old school that is,and solid as a rock came on, it took me back to my senior year in high school. I listen to the words again and thought " that is determination and "Love" what any married couple should have over the years. This time in life is very difficult for the family, may you all "throw your burden on our Heavenly Father and He will sustain you all" Psalm 55:22. I am truly sorry for your great loss- You are in my prayers.

I am a hugh Ashford and Simpson fan. I had the pleasure of meeting them both years ago at Joe Williams home in New Haven, CT. I took a picture with them which I treasure. I could not believe how nice they both were.
My children grew up listening to their music because I played it all the time. Two of my favorites are "Send It" and "Loose Me". I had the pleasure of seeing them perform a summer Concert in the park during the summer of '09 in Hamden, CT. I took some beautiful pictures of that performance not knowing I would not have the opportunity to see them both perform together again. I will teasure those pictures forever.
Val, you are blessed to have met your soul mate. You are blessed to have had the opportunity to share 38 wonderful years with him. Not many of use have had that opportunity.
Nick Ashford will really be missed.

As half of a dynamic musical couple and a positive public figure of a strong black marriage, Nick Ashford, to me, defined the meaning of a sexy, confident and serious black man in love with a black woman. In a word "BEAUTIFUL". God bless his soul as well as Valarie and the rest of his family he leaves behind.

I fell in love with their music back in the early 70's when I was a child hanging with my late sister Kim Lee and her husband Warren Lee sitting back listening to their 33's and was REALLY stuck on their song "Is it still good to ya" not knowing the meaning of the words to the song AT THAT TIME. I was torn to tears when I heard of his passing and will still say to my children as well to their friend....that was MUSIC! The world has truly lost 1/2 of the best performs of any decade and their music lives on forever. My prayers goes out to the entire family as well as the music industry!

NEW YORK, Monday, August 29: This evening at The Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, Memorial services took place for Mr. Nick Ashford, one-half of the talented song writing/ performing team Ashford and Simpson, who died last week at 70. The ceremony was attended by celebrities from the world of TV, Fashion, Entertainment, and Arts. Over one thousand people attended the service, a few hundred gathered on the closed to traffic block where Abyssinian Church is. This was New York's way of showing their love to the creative geniuses that wrote such romantic tunes as "Solid as a Rock" and many others. When Valerie was leaving the church, a crowd gathered around her, overwhelmed by the attention and the flashes, she raised her right hand as a symbolic gesture to acknowledge and thank the crowd for all the love she was receiving. It was a very emotional moment. Everyone stayed silent as she enters her car and leaves. Fernando Natalici

His Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of him as gone away,
his journey has just begun.
Life holds so many facets,
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears,
in a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days and years.
Think of how he must be wishing
that we could know, today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those who lives he touched
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.

Several years ago, Nick and Val appeared at the ArtScape in Baltimore Maryland. They are one singing duo I have admired for years. I had the pleasure of meeting you behind stage before your performance.
That night as Nick walked on to the stage, the ladies went wild. Val in her cool, calm way said, "Ladies, Ladies. He's all mine."
As a professional photographer I had the honor to photograper the duo from directly in front of the stage. Pictures of Nick and Val are proudly displayed in the portrait galary of my website.
After so many years to hits, please Nick rest in peace and Val, be strong.
