Our family adopted Pepita from the shelter at the Ashland Animal Hospital in March of 2000 along with another cat that would become her lifelong pal - Ty. We adopted Pepita and Ty, who were kittens at the time, after the unexpected death of another cat - Whiskey (aka Whiskers) - that was only with us 3 short years before a congenital heart problem claimed her life. When we went as a family to the shelter to pick out what was originally supposed to be our 'one' new cat, Taylor and Brayden each ended up picking different kittens and ultimately we decided to bring them both home and Pepita and Ty became new members of our family. Pepita's markings always reminded us of a cow :-) and although the Animal Hospital thought she was going to be a 'miniature' cat and on the small size - she ended up being anything but and we used to laugh at her chubby belly and how she looked more like a miniature cow than a miniature cat :-) Pepita also had double paws which gave her a real distinctive look. Pepita was often aloof when we would all get home each day after school/work but over the course of the evening would eventually warm up and cuddle and allow us to pet her. She was with us over 10 years before falling ill. In her final few weeks, as her illness really started to take its toll, she didn't want to leave our side and in her weakest moments showed us how much she truly loved and trusted us. We will always be appreciative of the warmth and caring shown by the staff at the Ashland Animal Hospital as we put Pepita to rest - especially Dr. Roe. Pepita was a special girl and we will always miss her.
