I was privileged to work with Alan while a junior at CDP in the 70's. It was the cradle of many near-geniuses, of which he was one. He was a joy to work with, combining talent, perception and decency in a world full of sharks, narcissists and nonentities. In later years, when he had become famous, he was still happy to acknowledge and converse on the few social occasions we met. I recall him fondly. The world has lost a true gentleman.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Sir Alan's death. I have been a professional actor for fifty years. It was Sir Alan who first put me in front of a camera in several commercials in the early 70's. These commercials led to parts in Midnight Express and The Wall. I owe much of my career to him. He was a very helpful director for actors, always offering just the right advice on how to play a scene. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have known and worked with him. I send my condolences to his family. He will be profoundly missed.
