Paris
Dear Olivia, I am grateful for the many fine movies you made, especially the ones with your sweetheart, Errol Flynn, and for living an exemplary life here on earth. You are one of my female role models because you were strong and fearless, yet remained a lady. Thank you for the lovely note you sent me from your home in Paris many years ago, and the autographed photos. My sympathies to your family, friends, and fans. I hope that you and Errol are finally reunited in Heaven, and are catching up while sipping champagne together somewhere. Rest well, angelic, beautiful Olivia.

A truly inspirational woman of her era, who was loved by everyone and her legacy will live on for decades. Mrs De Havilland stood from the crowd and taught so much to young aspiring actors and actresses. She will be extremely missed and is no doubt sipping champagne in heaven right now. A life well spent XXX

What a remarkable movie career Olivia de Havilland had in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Robin Hood, and, of course, Gone With the Wind, among her many other films. I never met this fine actress and fine lady, but with her passing a part of the Hollywood of the past is gone. But thank goodness for Turner Classic Movies and for her great performances that will still be available for all of us to enjoy.

In 1979, I had the great honor of photographing Olivia de Havilland and her beautiful daughter, Gisele, at the 40th anniversary of GWTW at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. That evening I realized what beauty and greatness were. Rest in Peace Miss de Havilland, you will be GREATLY missed. Doug Dunlap

What an amazing life and journey. Olivia you have been part of my life since my first watch of GWTW. I have quoted lines from the film, and really admired not only your acting career, but your efforts worldwide outside of acting. Thank you for living your life to the best and in the most productive possible ways. I admire you now, and always. Bravo!

She was a multi-talented person and we are thankful she lovingly shared her talents with us. She once said “I would prefer to live forever in perfect health” and I hope that desire is rewarded to her. May prayers strengthen you and cherished memories comfort you. Psalm 23

Tribute to Olivia de Havilland By: Will Barber
Your pretty eyes and beautiful smile captivated movie-going audiences for over half a century.
Though you entered a male-dominated field, your perseverance and integrity enabled you to succeed.
At first, you were seen as an almost child-like actress with varying degrees of innocence.
However, you proved to the world that you were more than just a sympathetic character.
Nevertheless, your life and art mirrored each other in many ways.
Though your Character Melanie in 'Gone With the Wind' died in the film, you remained the last surviving Adult Cast Member.
Like Melanie, through all the ups and downs of life, you took everything with a smile and, as you said, "One must take what comes, with laughter."
In this crazy and hectic world, I think we could all note Melanie's example in 'Gone With the Wind'.
Melanie felt compassion for everyone, including her enemies. Even those she disagreed with, she did not shun. Most importantly, she lived for one thing, and that was love.
One may find it surprising that a man such as me, who is attracted to the testosterone-driven nature of Professional Wrestling and Horror films, could admire you. However, it is the balance of emotion that you portrayed in many of the characters that I found intriguing and your perseverance through life's struggles.
You fought hard to the end and lived over a century.
Though you may no longer be with us, your films are still here to view until the end of time.
You embodied the Golden Age of Hollywood and specific time on this earth.
A time, that like all different periods, stays with us through film and entertainment, but like anything, one day, it is simply GONE WITH THE WIND!!!
RIP Olivia de Havilland!!!

I want to say that I think that Olivia de Havilland was a very great actress, a beautiful woman (until the day she died), a good living person, and a great mom. I think she was respected for all the these attributes. Some people have more money but these qualities out weigh all the money in the world. She will be missed.
May she rest in peace.

GWTW was and is my all time favorite film. I adored all the characters and have watched many of ODH’s movies.
Beauty, talent, grace.
What a force and inspiration she was. Though she most definitely lived a full, rich life I am saddened that she has passed on, grateful that she died peacefully in her sleep.
My condolences.

“Gone With the Wind” may now be de Havilland’s greatest legacy as an actress, but it was neither her first big success nor an award-winner for her. It was in swashbuckling action films that she first made her mark, starring opposite Errol Flynn (1909 – 1959) in eight films, including their debut as a pair,
