The first time I met George was at the Oakland Roadster show in 1968. I was a little kid and George treated me like gold. I was lucky enough to have a 47 year friendship with George. I worked at Barris Kustoms, and I learned more from George about business than I ever did in 4 years of college. Next to my Father, George was my hero. The Batmobile and the Munsters Koach were my two favorites. Geroge was a genius. Knowing George and working at Barris Kustoms was a true honor. RIP my friend !

We first met George 30 years ago in April 1997 when we had traveled from Florida to meet him at his shop and to see the original Batmobile. Although George was busy he took the time to chat with us at length and autograph several photos and a book for us. We were there at his shop for about two hours taking photos and talking with some of the fellows in the shop. It was a real pleasure for both of us to meet and talk with him, one we will never forget.

I ran into George a few more times over the years and last saw him in May 2011 again at his shop. He was always friendly and loved to talk with his fans. It was at that time I met Joji and found her to be as delightful to talk with as her dad.

George was one who set high standards for the kustomizing of various vehicles in the automotive industry for many years. There have been a lot of kustomizers over the years but there will only ever be one George Barris, "King of the Kustomizers."

In June of 1970 I met George as a young child at his Barris Kustom shop. I remember him parking the Batmobile on the lawn in front of the shop. My family had moved to Toluca Lake CA, and lived on Riverside Dr. It was awesome meeting the creator of the Batmobile, my favorite car in the world. I went back to the area in July of 2012, to see the Batmobile once again, George was not around. I had returned for my Grandmothers funeral, who is also buried at Forest Lawn.. I had no clue the Batmobile was going to be sold in 2013. It was really strange because I will always keep the memory of meeting him at a young age forever. I even collected his card and sticker set, Kustom cars in the 70's. I will miss not only his creative genius, but how kind he was to me ,when I met him. RIP sir, you will be missed.

Having been a fan of George Barris since the late 1950's, it was a thrill to finally meet him in 1998 at the World of Wheels in Boston, again in 2006, and then at Foxwoods in 2011. He signed some of my collection including Batmobile and Munster Coach models, a model of the Ala Kart, and some 1960's Rod and Custom magazines in which he was featured. In 2006 my wife and I were able to have photos taken with George in front of the Batmobile and the Munster Coach.

He was always pleasant, friendly, and most gracious when we asked in 2006 to use our own camera - he had a Polaroid. He will be missed greatly by all, but his body of work and inspiration to all lives on. We are thankful that he was blessed with 89 productive years. Rest in peace, George Barris, and may God bless.

AS a kid growing up in the San Fernando valley in the 1950 it always great to go to the hot rod shops and BARRIS was the high point as kid and I was at his shop 1 year ago and talked to him for some time, he was always kind to me as a kid and easy to talk to.
I have may friends that knew him more close then me, but he inspired me to this day. Many say there will never be a man as great as him, I hope he will be a starting point for the young to see they to can some day be a high point to some kid as i was.

To the Barris Family,

I had the honor of first meeting George when in April 1997, I stopped by his shop to visit, and of course, check out his most famous creation the Batmobile. We had the chance to chat and he allowed me to walk around his shop for quite some time snapping photos. For that, I will forever be grateful.

I met him again in 2003 at the close of the Klassix Auto Museum in Daytona Beach and was able to get together for some photos again. That was just one of the great things about him, he always made the time to share time with people who wanted to see him.

I cannot think of another who has led the kind of life George has. Designer, builder, photographer, entrepreneur, showman and so much more. He has left all of us with a legacy that will be talked about for generations.

Thank you, George, for all you have done in the world of custom cars hot rods and especially to this 10-year-old in 1966, the one and only Batmobile!

Prayers and blessings to the Barris family as you celebrate the life of this extraordinary remarkable man. George and Shirley are together again.

Respectfully submitted,

George,

As a car guy and car family, my wife Terry Petrillo, daughter Natalie Petrillo, and I have honored the relationship that we have had with you and your family. Our visits with you and your family have always been filled with respect to everyone, love of life and fun and enjoyment.

Hearing your stories about your career and imagining how you changed the lives of many through the utilization of your imagination and the execution of your designs, was always exciting to us.

Unfortunately, we have no way of measuring the enjoyment you brought to all including the movie industry, their viewers, the car industry and the public that viewed your unbelievable vehicle creations. We have no way of identifying the careers that you self started through your talent for those who said "I want to be like George Barris and express my talent."

George, you have a wonderful family that along with your friends will never forget you. This is one way to identify our love and respect for you, your talent and kindness you brought to others through your personal and business relationships.

It has been an honor knowing you and the time you spent with me sharing your stories especially about the Rat Pack and Elvis, who I have always admired their ability to attract others through their talent and mostly their kindness to others. Just like you George.

God Bless you George Barris, we will miss you and your smile.

On behalf of the Charles M. Jordan family, our deepest condolences go out to Joji, Brett and the whole Barris family. George will undoubtedly leave an enormous void in the automotive world.

Throughout the decades, my late father Chuck and George had a very special and enduring friendship. Their friendship began in the late 1950's when they first met at George's California shop where they discussed the "Candy Apple" paint process that George pioneered and Chuck so admired. From that initial meeting, Chuck, George, Shirley and my Mother Sally established a friendship that flourished over the years.

Chuck immensely admired George for his innovation, prolific work and his many ground breaking automotive designs. Most importantly, Chuck thought George was a fun and personable guy!

More recently, I ran into George at one of the past SEMA shows in Las Vegas. I was so excited to see him to say Hello! Even though it was noticeable to me that George had physically aged, the passion in his voice was still as energetic as that of a young kid! He was the most personable guy anyone could ever know and what a master showman! For me, some of my great childhood memories were attributed to George and his iconic car creations to some of my favorite TV shows. To this day, I still have my cherished book of signed photographs from the Batman and the Munsters TV shows which George sent to us kids back in the day.

There are a few memorable Jordan Family stories about George;

Batmobile

George had just created the Batmobile for the mega-successful TV series, "Batman". In 1967, George was doing a promotional tour around various parts of the USA with Adam West (Batman), who was quite a celebrity in those days. George decided to stop by Detroit, so he telephoned Chuck to ask him if he could come by for a visit together with Adam West to GM Styling. Word of this upcoming visit got out to the styling staff and a few of the "Jokester" designers decided to play a prank on Chuck.

After George and Adam arrived at the styling center, my dad proudly took them on a tour of GM Styling. When Chuck took his guests to lunch, a few of the GM designers grabbed Chuck's brand new 1967 Corvette and did it up in a "Batman" motif. Of course Chuck had no idea of this prank.

At the end of the tour, George, Chuck and Adam proceeded to the GM Styling executive garage where Chuck proudly wanted to show them the latest GM styling concept cars in addition to his newly acquired '67 Corvette. The funny thing of this all, is when they entered the garage, Chuck turns to look at his Corvette and was shocked and flabbergasted. He quickly realized his Car had been transformed into a "Batmobile". He was speechless and didn't know what to say to George. The joke was on him. The prankster designers got him good! Needless to say, George and Adam got a good laugh!

Munster Koach

In 1964, George took the Munster Koach on tour around some major cities in the US to promote "the Munsters" show. One of his stops was Detroit. One Saturday morning, George phoned Chuck and asked if he wanted to get together for a casual visit. Chuck obliged and invited George out to the house. Low and behold, George drives up in the Munster Koach! It was a total surprise! At the time, My sister and I were great fans of the Munsters TV show, and having the Munster Koach in our driveway with its creator, was like going to heaven! George was generous enough to take us kids out for a ride around town and the whole experience made us feel like local celebrities! I quickly invited all my friends over to see this "bigger than life" vehicle. This has always been such an awesome childhood memory! What an awesome car designer! What an awesome friend! You will be greatly missed! Thanks again George.

Our deepest condolences,

The Jordan family

GEORGE BARRIS was and still is one of my greatest automotive customing idols of all time. There is no doubt he is considered to be in the custom car industry as the king. Just like Elvis was to rock and roll!
When the batman show first came on the tv commercial I was not intrested UNTILL I SAW THE THE CAR!!!!! I never missed an episode and cursed the t.v. When they did not show the batmobile! I became a instant fan of the car! And I remember the first time I saw it live and in person! I say that because their was no celebrity or figure head on this planet I wanted to see more!
For me the batmobile set the icon of other movies to have custom cars!
However now today there is only one other show that creates new custom cars for every show and that is the fast and furious! And I believe George set stage of movies to be follow in secuess to have a custom car in the picture for the draw of the custom car enthusiast. And to this day almost every one of the new batman films have a new car in them! Because George Barris made it so impressionable form the days of the t.v. Show! It is now a staple in the franchise of the film. I THANK GOD FOR HIS PRESENCE ON THIS PLANET!!!
And ALL the eye candy we could possiblly eat with our creative minds!
WE ALL WILL TRUELY MISS HIM!!! IF THERE IS A ROCK AND ROLL HEAVEN!!! There must also be a CUSTOM CAR HEAVAN! And now they have their chief designer!

Rest in peace my friend.

I was lucky enough to meet George twice and shake his hand both times. The first time was at the L. A. County fair grounds and the second was at the Fontana raceway. I told him the Munster Coach was my favorite kustom ever since I was a little kid and will always be my favorite. I told him it was a car that had the perfect visual balance to it which makes you keep looking at it. Such a real man. Nothing phony about him at all. Always interested in what you have to say to him

I run a nonprofit paranormal group in Ontario, CA (Raptor Paranormal Services of Socal) and have always had dreams of building a Munsters type of car for advertising or even using on cases.

Thank you George ! You will be missed !

This was indeed a shock to hear. George was a part of every Hot Rodder , custom car owner and builder. It is going to be difficult to not have him around. He was always there at the Car Shows and was always able to take time to say Hi to everyone. He shared so many of his stories of building cars for various movie starts and movies. My favorite was when he and his wife Shirley (also deceased) took in Prisilla Presley when she came to California with Elvis after he got out of the Army for a time.
George will be missed by soooo many people but he will live in our memories forever.
Thank you George for bringing so much to so many lives. Best wishes to your family. RIP

George and Shirley were our neighbors at our mountain home in Big Bear. They were good friends and "real people". We will miss our get-to-gethers which were always filled with friendship, fellowship and fun.

God Bless

I was fortunate to meet Mr. Barris at some of his appearances at the Abbotsford BC car shows. He was truly a gentleman, who would spend time with the many people waiting in line to shake his hand or get a cherished Batmobile singed. I wish the family well and God Bless.

It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Barries. My son and I met him initially in las Vegas at the knight rider festival, he influenced my life and inspired me to continue with my project of having my own knight rider car replica. Now after five years I can relate with George Barries' joy on creating kustom cars. He has moved to a bigger garage and my prayers are with your family celebrating the life of a legend. May God be with you until we meet again George Barries.

I got the honour to meet Mr Barris at SEMA and then again at his shop in 2011. I was lucky enough to have him let me sit in his Batmobile and Munsters Coach and take my photo. His stories about the James Dean Porsche etc had me mesmerized. He told me I had to go to the Fleetwood car show and GAS. I was hoping to get back to the USA to do this and to see him again. We have lost a true legend. Miss you already Mate. Condolences to Joji and family. xo

I was deeply saddened to here of George's passing.......I will always treasure the times we toured together at many shows from 2002 until now, most of all we traveled together to Japan for the Mooneyes show
In 2012 where they made action figures of George to match the ones they did of Ed Big Daddy Roth & myself Larry Speedo' Henley...
,but one other show stands out in my mind at the Detroit Autorama where they featured many of Georges cars, and besides him inviting me to sit in some of the most iconic cars ,including the original TV series Bat Mobile, and of course when there I was privileged to interview George for one of our greatest oldies stations back home in Monterey, Calif..
George you will always have a special place in my heart and memories, your Friend and admirer,
Love , Larry Speedo 'Henley

The legendary King of Kustoms George Barris is gone however he will never be forgotten for the famous 66 Batmobile and Munster's Coach creations and many others. George was well known throughout the world for his amazing talents.
George was always smiling and always remembered me at shows as the kid who tamed Christine. We always took a picture when we saw each other and he always gave me his business card.
RIP my friend, you will be missed.

I met George Barris about 15 years ago as I walked into his shop in North Hollywood, I'll never forget how he was busy going over pictures that were taken at his last event. George loved his pictures especially with the girls :)
I will always remember how kind he was and taking time to talk about my favorite TV show "Knight Rider" I wish I lived closer and had more time to hang out with George and his family, He will truly be missed by all.

George was a true legend and a living icon. During his many years as the Grand Marshall of the BC Classic & Custom Car Show at the Tradex in Abbostford B.C. he developed an affection for Canada and Canada loved him right back. He was down-to-earth, warm, approachable and 7 feet of heart in a 5' 4" container. He was loved by everyone at the show and brought so much joy to the fans who would be transported back to their magical days of youth as they recounted building a model of one of his legendary creations. He had never lost his child-like demeanor and last year at the show we were busy chatting when he spotted a balloon and without missing a beat he grabbed it and started bouncing it with youthful abandon just like a child would. We joked that he could've made the NBA if only he was 6 feet taller! lol We all love you George and a piece of it's soul will be missing at this year's show. Thanks for your amazing stories, your storied life that you so generously shared with everyone and thanks for being YOU! RIP

George was a one of a kind. I was proud to have known him. The last time I saw him was just a few days before the number one Batmobile was to be moved to Arizona for the auction.

George brought great dreams to life that will remain as a long legacy to his creativity and that wonderful personality that motivated us all to do more, in exciting ways.

My condolences to Joji, Brett and the rest of the Barris family.
